You may experience the issue with the battery of the laptop that does not hold charge when the life of battery has come to an end or due to a faulty battery. Before confirming if the problem is exactly with the battery, check the A/C adapter.
Connect A/C adapter to an outlet power source without using any power sources such as surge protector.
Start the notebook only with A/C power by removing battery. If the notebook is unable to boot with A/C adapter, then the problem could be with A/C adapter or with any of its connections. If the notebook fails to turn on with A/C adapter connected to it, the problem might be due to the A/C adapter which needs to be repaired or replaced but if the notebook turns on with A/C adapter then the problem is with battery which is not able to hold charge.
Remove the battery and check if there is any damage on battery. If there are no signs of any physical damage you may reseat the battery back into the notebook and connect the A/C adapter back and let the battery charge for 10 - 15 minutes.
Now turn on the notebook by removing the A/C adapter connection and running it only on battery power.
Check now, if the laptop is able to turn on and if not then the battery might be defective and needs to be replaced. The problem can occur even when the battery life is above to end.
Also update your BIOS as flashing new BIOS can resolve the problem sometimes. To get a new version of BIOS of your notebook, visit your notebook manufacturer website and check the drivers page. Make sure that the BIOS available on the website is the latest one as flashing a wrong one could damage your notebook permanently.
The above steps are basic troubleshooting steps which will help you in isolating the issue.
