At this point in the 21st century, notebooks have become an indispenable part of many people's everyday lives. The big drawback of that is the fact that there is not always a plug around when you need one. A notebook computer's battery is its life-blood. It can be frustrating when a new or replacement notebook battery is not performing at peak capabilities. Without proper care, your notebook battery could fail much earlier than anticipated. There are a few simple steps that can be taken to improve the life of your notebooks batteries.
You should always completely charge a new battery before its first use. Whether you have purchased a new computer have purchased a new battery for your laptop, charging it fully as soon as you open the box is the best recommendation. You should always fully charge the battery whenever the notebook dies. It is beneficial to wait until the notebook battery is completely dead before fully charging it again. This will increase the charge held and the batteries overall life span.
Whenever a brand new battery is purchased it may not fully charge the first time, or charge at a faster rate than expected. This is not uncommon and requires exercising the battery to resolve the problem. It is recommended to use notebook batteries at least once every two to three weeks to avoid dormancy.
Once you reach a full charge, leave the computer plugged in for at least 1 hours. This action lets the battery "rest" at a full charge for a fairly lengthy period of time. Letting your battery rest for a time after a full charge helps to "lock-in" that full charge capacity.
Notebooks that are not placed on a hard surface will heat up at faster rate than soft surfaces because soft surface don’t allow the cooling fans to circulate the air properly, thus causing the battery to overheat. battery will have lost a significant portion of its life if in overheat condition. Make sure that your laptop is not stored in a hot place. In case you have not realized it, heat is a batteries worst enemy and should be avoided at all costs.
Batteries that are stored for long periods of time will most likely lose their charge. Unplug the computer and drain the battery. You need to drain the power almost completely. This will help determine the charge capacity of the battery. Then plug back into the wall socket for a fresh charge.
If these steps are followed when using notebook batteries you can expect to see them last for their maximum life span. Not to say that you will never have to replace it, but at least it will be a long time before you need to.
